The person selling is asking $35. There is some wicker missing from a leg. Do you think that’s a good deal? The paint, laquer, wicker to fix the leg and cushions will prob add up to $100.

1272618127 28 Replacement Cushions For Outdoor Furniture Make Your Own a

First of all you don’t have to be perfect here, this is outdoor furniture, but you do need to measure!

Take your tape measure and measure the seat of your chair, and the backs if you want back cushions as well. If you are simply replacing cushions you already have, and are happy with the size, then use these as a guide.

If you already have cushions, then just clean them up a bit, and stuff them totally inside your new slip cover. This way they will have two layers of fabric for protection.

We will use the base of the chair for this article. Measure where you would like the cushion to extend to on the seat, remembering that sometimes a chair tapers in towards the back. You can take your measurements and map them out on brown paper, or newspaper, and then draw them out. Or you can map the measurements right onto a piece of foam.

If you have created your pattern on paper, then cut it out and sit it on the chair, and see if you like the dimensions. It is much easier to scrap that piece of paper and start again, then to cut the foam out wrong. So, that old saying “measure twice cut once”.. that works for most sewing projects, and especially for replacement cushions for outdoor furniture! Unless you are going for the odd shaped cushions for a special effect!

When choosing your fabric, it is a good idea to find fabrics that are weather resistant and designed for outdoor use. This doesn’t mean they would stand up to a howling gale, but they will not fade as much from the sun, and dry out much quicker if they do get wet.

Unless your patio is totally covered, then you can explore any cotton fabrics, but if there is even a remote chance of outdoor weather, then you should try and find something you like in the weather resistant part of the fabric store.

Using your foam that you have now cut out (a sharp knife will cut the foam, but also a electric knife cuts really clean) as a guide for fabric amounts is the easiest way. Make sure and allow for the sides (height) and your seam allowance. Also purchase a zipper that matches so that you can remove these covers for laundering.

Once you have measured for your fabric, and cut it out, make sure and sew with right sides together, the front to the back, and installed a zipper on the longest part of the cushion. Make sure and use double stitching on these seams for wear and tear.

Trim your seams, and then turn your cushion covers to the right side. Press the corners out, and then take your foam piece and fold it enough (your foam piece at 1.5 inches thick should be pliable enough to fold a bit to get it into the cover) to get it into your cushions cover through the open zipper. Make any adjustments, close the zipper and you are done!

The iPad is amazing. The iPad sucks. The iPad is this. The iPad is that. In total, it just sounds like some feminine hygiene product. Everyone has their opinions. But this question is real: Does the iPad have what it takes to replace your laptop?

The question not only goes hand and hand in the iPad, but also with what laptop you currently have. If you have crappy laptop, then chances are is that the iPad can replace it. However, if you just bought a brand new MacBook, then I doubt the iPad can do much replacing.

Let’s look into the main differences between “normal” laptops and the iPad.

The Screen – Like I just said, we will be comparing a “normal” laptop to the iPad. These are standard specs one would find in a brand new every day computing laptop. First off, when comparing the screen, the every day laptop will generally have a larger screen than the iPad which is 9.7 inches. Now of course, the iPad has the awesome multi touch capability. And trust me, that’s pretty awesome.

Keyboard -  The iPad has a touch screen keyboard which isn’t the easiest to use. However, you can buy an external normal sized keyboard for the device, making it the same as a laptop.

Programs – Now as we all know, the iPad can’t get flash, but it can get awesome programs that are near identical to Microsoft Office. This set of programs comes in a package. It is called iWork.

Conclusion – In the end, can the iPad replace your laptop? Well, my dear friend, the answer depends on you and your needs. In my opinion, I still need my laptop, but sure, I’d love to add an iPad to my everyday items!

Carolina Girl Furniture To Debut In High Point

1272492103 41 Carolina Girl Furniture To Debut In High Point

Carolina Girl Furniture announced that , “There is a new girl in town, more specifically a Carolina Furniture Girl, and she has created a new shopping experience for fashionable and comfortable furniture.”

The company, founded by  Carolina girl Pam Hughes, President and Owner of Carolina Girl Furniture, started her new North Carolina based company to offer fashion forward furniture designs and well-developed eco friendly construction that is comfortable and practical.

Carolina Girl Furniture sells through home furnishings retailers and the interior design community and will show for the first time in High Point at Suites At Market Square #G-2034.

Currently the product line includes sofas, chairs, ottomans, chaise loungers, sofa sectionals, pillows and doggie beds. Another of CGFs advantages is its quick turnarounds on design fashions while still offering plenty of profit opportunity for the dealer.  Part of that strategy is Pams willingness to talk directly to the consumer to listen to their voice on what they want in their home furnishing designs.  Pam invites feedback and keeps her customers informed when it comes to furniture fashion.  I have incorporated our fabric shopping experience into our blog and Facebook page so people can get first hand experience on choosing the hottest furniture fashions.

Speaking of the hottest fashions, Pam is not afraid to mix textures, hues, materials or pillow sizes. I dont want to produce the same stuff that has been out there for 20 years, I want different, stylish and fun. That is exactly why Pam has collaborated with designer Kim Luther.  Kim is Pams head furniture designer and has a flair for creating looks that are funky, creative and colorful.  We have a lot of fun putting together fabrics and frame options, Kim comments.  We are offering a stylish piece of furniture that is comfortable and sustainable below average retail prices.  With sofas starting at $599 [retail] and sectionals starting at $899 [retail], the consumer is certainly getting the value from the Carolina Girls.

Pam Hughes grew up in the furniture industry and is now a 3rd generation furniture maker.  She also owns NC Upholstery and was a former partner in Hughes Furniture Industries in Randleman, NC.  Pam aspired to build one-of-a-kind art piece collections using a Carolina theme.  Her inspiration came from the Carolina Girl theme song, Carolina Girl the best in the world, sweet Carolina Girl, by Chairmen of the Board.  Growing up in North Carolina made Pam a true naturalist.  She loves the outdoors and all aspects of growing up in the south and appreciates what natures raw materials have afforded her; trees for making fine furniture and cotton for making fine fabrics.  Because of this love for nature, Pam has developed a way to manufacture a 100% eco-friendly sofa and she uses American made materials whenever possible.

She developed a business model that allows CGF to offer unique design styles in short runs allowing for one-of-a-kind experiences.  Each sofa and chair is named for its stylish design personality.  Winey Girl got her name from her rich, deep, merlot look, velvety feel and brushed antique nail heads.  General Girls astute mix of leather and textured ribbed fabric along with its silk pillows and bold nail heads make for a sophisticated and strong statement.  Each piece has a girls name including: Tweetie Girl, Sweetie Girl, Flower Girl, Lazy Girl, Country Girl, etc.

1272484892 29 Patio Cool: Transforming a Teeny Porch or Patio into a Festive, Functional Haven

IN YOUR DREAMS, you’ve got a backyard deck that rivals the rooftop bar at the W Hotel and a garden on par with the one Michelle Obama planted at the White House. But for most city dwellers, the reality is a piece-of-toast-sized balcony off a Shaw studio or a Petworth rowhouse patio with room for a sad, tiny tree that only Charlie Brown could love.

“People think they’ve got all this room,” says James DeLorbe, president of D.C. design firm DeLorbe, Manderlay & Wilde, Ltd. “They envision they’re going to have a table and four chairs, a conversation area, plants. They rush out and buy all these things, but when they get them in there, there’s no way to move.”

To optimize a dinky outdoor space, think realistically about the size of your balcony, patio, porch or front stoop, says DeLorbe. Just as important? Knowing how you want it to function. “I would have a conversation with the client about how they expect to use the space,” says Jason Claire, co-owner of D.C. home furnishings shop Vastu (1829 14th St. NW; 202-234-8344), which also offers design services. “Are they big into grilling and therefore eating outside? Or are they cocktail party people who need a high table to lean on?”

Choose furniture that won’t overwhelm a small space — bistro sets for alfresco dining, lounge chairs that fold up. Avoid cushions that need to be stored somewhere when it’s raining. (Even weather-proof fabrics like Sunbrella won’t withstand being outside constantly.) Keep things flexible by investing in wheeled platforms for plants or tables with leaves. And in a decidedly non-Versailles style garden, multitaskers are a must — as in footrests that also work as tables or seats, and plant stands that double as bars when entertaining.

And yes, you can throw a party, even in a plot with petite proportions. Just skip the five-course, gourmet feast. “Have an open house,” says Denise Gee, author of the upcoming book “Porch Parties” ($17, Chronicle Books). “That allows people to drop by at different times and keeps things interesting.” For the menu, Gee suggests serving a signature cocktail and finger foods that are easy to eat even if guests find themselves perched on the fire escape.

When adding the final touches to your cozy front porch or tiny back terrace, don’t go overboard. “Small spaces tend to be over-designed; people think they can do a lot more with them than they actually can,” says Derek Stearns, co-host of DIY Network’s Rock Solid and Indoors Out series (Tues., 10 p.m.). “There’s nothing worse than when you walk into a great backyard and you see all these wind chimes and gnomes. That looks like ‘It’s a Small World’ from Disney World. It’s better to keep it simple and to keep the space true to its function.”

Stearns likes accessorizing with plants, whether that’s a decorative dwarf tree in a corner or a pretty pot filled with cheap but colorful annuals like zinnias and petunias.

And an outdoor rug can help tie everything together. “When I see a rug with two chairs and a little couch, I feel like I’m in someone’s living room,” he says. “It can be the ugliest patio in the world, but no one’s looking at that, because it feels like a room.”
