’Hope’ workshop
PITTSFIELD — A workshop for breast cancer survivors and those dealing with breast cancer will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts on Renne Avenue.
Kellie Meisl will present “Dreaming Hope,” a free event made available by funds from the think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Art Show. The event is sponsored by the Breast Health Team of the Berkshires.
The participants of this workshop will have a chance to work with their dreams and create their own dream journal. There will be an abundance of sharing and a series of simple exercises designed to help participants learn how to work with their dreams and draw meaning from them.
No artistic experience is necessary. Participants should feel free to bring pillows, blankets, eye covers, drums, rattles and any personal objects they would like to place in the circle. A break and snack will be provided.

PITTSFIELD — in honor of National Midwifery Week, Alchemy Initiative, Berkshire Birth Professionals, the Pittsfield Birth Circle and the Storefront Artist Project will present “Birth, Art and Alchemy,” a film screening, art show and panel discussion, on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Alchemy Initiative will open its studio doors at 40 Melville St. from 1 to 4 p.m. during fall Open Studios in Pittsfield, presenting the work of local artists Crispina ffrench and Diane Firtell. Berkshire Birth Professionals and Pittsfield Birth Circle will present an art show of birth-inspired work, including photography, sculpture, belly casts and more.
The event will continue at 4:30 p.m. with a screening of the film “The Timeless way: A History of Birth from Ancient to Modern Times.” A panel discussion led by birth professionals will follow the film.
A suggested donation of $5 will support the presenting organizations. Info: alchemyinitiative.org.
Joint workshop
NORTH ADAMS — North Adams Regional Hospital will continue its series of question-and-answer sessions with orthopedic surgeons Dr. James Whittum, Dr. Suk Namkoong and Dr. Jonathan Cluett from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire on Route 8.
The doctors will take questions on joint replacement, including hips, knees and shoulders.

Care Net open house
BENNINGTON, Vt. — Care Net Pregnancy Center of the Tri-State Area will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at 109 Silver St.
Care Net is a nonprofit organization that offers free pregnancy tests, prenatal and parenting classes, material assistance for pregnant women and families with children from birth to 2 years old, and a newly implemented mentoring/educational program for dads. All services are free and confidential.

McGee move
PITTSFIELD — The McGee Substance Abuse and Recovery Unit of Berkshire Medical Center has relocated from the Hillcrest Campus of BMC to the main hospital campus at 725 North St.
The McGee Unit provides safe, medically-managed detoxification and stabilization for persons 18 years and older with an identified drug or alcohol problem.
Effective Oct. 1, the unit will be located in the Jones Building at BMC, first floor.
Fitness programs
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. — The first phase of a walking path has been finished at Immaculate Conception Parish, thanks to a grant increase from its seniors’ ministry benefactors.
The 700-foot path is located across from the main church on the south side of Route 20, beginning at the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. everyone is welcome to walk during daylight hours, weather permitting.
The outdoor path is part of an initiative to encourage seniors to remain active and moving throughout the year. during the fall and winter months, an indoor wellness and fitness program will be offered to all interested persons from the local communities. Participants will meet in the Immaculate Conception parish hall on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. beginning Oct. 25. A professional trainer will direct the exercise activities and plans to emphasize stretching, flexibility, balance and light muscle toning with special consideration for individual needs.
For those who join the program, incentive prizes will be awarded based on time spent walking and exercising. A fee of $25 is requested for the first 10 weeks (Oct. 25 through Dec. 30); however, no one will be excluded for inability to pay.
All who wish to take part in the indoor program are required to meet with fitness trainer Rhonda Leavitt on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception parish hall. Info: 518-794-7651.
Meditation classes
GREAT BARRINGTON– Licensed social worker Diana Austen will lead meditation classes with a focus on mindfulness from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

Digestive health talk
WILLIAMSTOWN — Wild Oats Market will host an evening talk on digestive health with Dr. Francine Lajoie of Living well Chiropractic on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
Lajoie will discuss the importance of the digestive system to overall health and how problems such as heartburn, reflux, irritable bowel and Crohn’s disease can be improved by an individualized nutritional program. She will demonstrate how people can assess the needs of their body to determine the nutritional support they need.
The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session and optional one-on-one nutritional screenings with. There is no charge; space is limited and registration is recommended. Info: wildoats.coop or 413-458-8060.
